No Distractions During The Seance

A distant ghostly whistle responding to one of the earlier requests came upon us and scared us to death.

The reason for everything to be removed is so that there are no distractions during the séance, like, say, someone with hay fever reaching for a bottle of water and then knocking it over and it rolling into the centre of the circle during an ‘Is there anybody out there?Show us a sign’ session.I could understand their point and relaxed a little. After a few false starts the night got underway.A box with a red light globe was placed just in front and to the left of tent and it was one of her assistant’s jobs to switch the light on and off at certain points. We were informed to be on the lookout for spirit lights, black shadows, purple mists and changes in temperature and to speak up if we noticed anything so that other members of the group could try to notice them too.The lights went out and the red light came on.I don’t know if you’ve ever seen anything under low level red light conditions, but the world looks very different.Your eyes are tricked into seeing things that weren’t there a minute ago. It’s like having a different perception and I think that is the idea.I just happened to sit the furthest away and had to lean forward and squint. From the gasps and exclaims from the ladies from the ‘other’ circle there was lots going on, which I could only just make out as my vision was going haywire. This is where things took a turn for the delightfully weird. In order to help raise the energy of the room and assist the two spirit children of Rachael and Sarah move the ball, we’d have to hold hands and sing nursery rhymes.Did I mention it was a balmy spring night only a few days from Halloween? With no light in the room, except for the faint glow of the ball, it was hard to see what was going on and my eyes kept losing focus. Then people started to notice the ball moving and offered words of encouragement for young Rachael and Sarah.I squinted harder to see if I could see what they were seeing, but I couldn’t.Once again there was encouragement from the room for the two spirit children to move the cone. This was powered by a rather horrendous rendition of ‘Row, Row, Row Your Boat’.However, from the sound the ladies were making, the spirit children had in fact been successful.Every now and then I’d see tiny specks of light out of the corner of my eye but couldn’t tell if they were the spirit lights we were told to be on the lookout for.I tried to keep an open mind and an open eye! Then I caught a glimpse of a spark near Cindy’s leg and wondered if that was one of the lights, and she suddenly said, ‘Did anyone see that spirit light near my leg?’ Okay, I may not be able to see any of the objects move, but I did see the little spark of light!Things were looking up and I felt my excitement level rise when the objects were put away and the announcement was made that we were going to try to ‘hear’ a spirit. The idea was to whistle and then wait to see if we could hear a spirit whistle in return.
